The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari, will take part to tOSSad through its Agile Laboratory, headed by Prof. Michele Marchesi. Research at the Agile Laboratory runs along "Agile and self-organizing software development methodologies", "Modeling and simulation of economic multi-agent systems" and "Object-oriented technology and simulation". Recently the Agile Laboratory has been engaged in two basic research programs (FIRB) funded by Italian Ministry for Research. Both programs are coordinated by prof. Marchesi, and totalize a gross funding of about 2 million Euros. The first and larger project (1.6 Meuros) is about agile methodologies for software production (MAPS), including open-source development; the second one is about research on agent modeling and simulation of economic systems (RAMSES).

University of Cagliari will contribute to the project its expertise on teaching software languages and methodologies, on developing curricula in software engineering, on working with standards for data interchange, on having several collaborations with industries, and on developing a process for moving from proprietary software to open source software. University of Cagliari will be the coordinator of Workpackage 4 on F/OSS Curriculum Development, and in particular will take charge of evaluating the needs of industry to improve the F/OSS adoption, defining which skills are needed by industry to use F/OSS.

The expectations of University of Cagliari in this project are to be part of a true European network for exchanging experiences, to work with the other Workpackage partners, with industries and schools to develop and disseminate sound curricula for F/OSS study and adoption, and in general to help the adoption of F/OSS in European industries, public administrations and schools.
